Our Local Businesses Need Us Now

Dear Illinois Valley Area,

Stay home. That is the simple instruction we all need to follow to do our part and help slow the spread of the Coronavirus upending our community. Sadly, a major downside of staying home is the tragic blow it delivers to our local businesses. We are going through this together and need to count on each other to be calm, rational and considerate. Check on your neighbors and at-risk community members by calling on the phone or sending private messages via social media; instead of going in person.

While COVID-19 will upend our local business sector, there are things we can do right now—largely without leaving home—to help our local businesses manage through the crisis and survive.

This is why we launched Love Local IV: a tool to empower our community to support our local businesses from the comfort of our home. Click here to learn how it works.

Purchasing gift cards, ordering food to go or for delivery (and tipping well), shopping online or contributing to an emergency support fund for employees. These are just a few ways we can help.

These are difficult times. But I know we’re up to the challenge. We are going to continue working on your behalf in both our community and while working with our governmental officials during this COVID-19 pandemic. Take care of yourselves. Take care of your family and neighbors. And let’s take care of our local businesses and their workers—the heart of our local economy.

Sincerely,

Joni Hunt

How to Love Local from Home

ONE

STAY HOME, STAY SAFE

The importance of following Governor Pritzker's “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order cannot be overstated. Staying home as much as possible will stop the spread of the virus, help our medical professionals get this situation under control and save lives.

TWO

GO ONLINE & LOVE LOCAL IV

Our digital connectedness enables us to support our local businesses in several important ways during the crisis. Click on the business below to purchase a gift card, order delivery, takeout or curbside service or contribute to employee support funds—all from the safety of the online space. If you have the means, now is the time to be generous.

THREE

ENJOY YOUR FAVORITE SPOTS WHEN IT'S SAFE

When this is over, we’ll have done all we can to help our local businesses manage through the emergency and reopen their doors—and we’ll have a pocket full of gift cards to boot! Your support now helps businesses pay their staff, cover their overhead and survive this storm.

Ten Point Plan for Safe

Takeout & Delivery

Some may rightly wonder if it’s safe to order takeout or delivery food. This pandemic clearly presents new risks to our daily life. Ways to mitigate that risk also exist. Here are some good practices for ordering and enjoying takeout and delivery food as safely as possible:

  1. Keep your distance from other people

  2. Wash your hands

  3. Think twice about using cash & communal pens

  4. Wash your hands

  5. Discard food packaging as soon as possible

  6. Wash your hands

  7. Tip generously (delivery workers are at high risk)

  8. Wash your hands

  9. Use your home plates & utensils

  10. Wash your hands

Be 'All In' Illinois

Here at IVAC, we're 'All in' with businesses and communities to support each other during times like this. We’re 'All In' — for our neighbors, health care professionals, first responders, grocery store workers, and so many more. We're stronger together.

Now more than ever, we’re ‘All in’ to take care of ourselves and the ones we love. Star Union Spirits, located inside the historic Westclox building, has switched their production to produce hand sanitizer for our communities. This is their story.
